The importance of safe spaces.

The World Health Organization declared in 2018 that spaces in communities, educational institutions and homes should be safe environments and a refuge free of stigma, abuse and violence for adolescents.

In an increasingly complex society, safe spaces are essential to guarantee the comprehensive development of people. These spaces can be physical, such as homes, schools, parks and community centers, or virtual, such as online platforms and social media.

Safe spaces are essential for the development and well-being of people. According to Eduardo De La Vega, Engineer and PhD candidate in Developmental Sciences-Psychology, safe spaces are those in which people feel free from being victims of violence, discrimination or harassment, and where they feel respected and valued by those around them. They surround them.

“A safe space is those physical spaces in which children, adolescents and young people can meet, participate in healthy activities and live the community experience, which is very important for the social experience” Eduardo De La Vega

FCC throughout its history has understood that thanks to its methodologies and ways of using football as a tool of transformation, its participants can feel safe and have significant learning in this type of environments and conditions.

In safe spaces, people feel free to express themselves and be themselves, allowing them to develop confidence and self-esteem. Additionally, these spaces give them the opportunity to connect with other people and form healthy relationships, which is essential for their emotional well-being.

However, unfortunately, not everyone has access to safe spaces. Many people, especially those who belong to marginalized or vulnerable groups, do not have access to these spaces and face increased risks of violence, discrimination and harassment.

It is important that we work together to ensure that everyone has access to safe spaces. This includes the creation of policies and programs that promote inclusion and equality, as well as education and awareness about the importance of safe spaces for the development and well-being of people.

With the perspective of Eduardo De La Vega, we can understand that safe spaces are essential to guarantee the comprehensive development of people, and it is our responsibility to work together to guarantee that boys, girls, adolescents and young people have greater access to this type of spaces. .

If you want to delve deeper into this topic, we invite you to learn more about safe spaces in the FCC Community Webinar where the special guest is Eduardo De La Vega, engineer and doctoral candidate in Developmental Sciences-Psychology.
